In the morning the wind at south west with Fog but very myld weather but the weather [also] very close until noon, then the sun shining very pleasant and warm until night.
This morning Master Bowling arrived here in the Hope which came from London, departing from thence [the] 24th [of] November last. Also this day our fresh water lake by the Fort did break up.
[Obviously the Hope did not sail directly from London to Cupids, a trip that normally would have taken no more than four or five weeks. In a letter written 12 days after the ship's arrival in Cupids, Crout says that the Hope, "having very foul weather and in some danger...put in to Barnstaple" to be refitted.]
