Cupids Cove Plantation Provincial Historic Site
On May 27, 2011 the archaeological site at Cupids was declared a Provincial Historic Site. During 2011 the Site will be open seven days a week from May 28 to October 7 between 9:30am and 5:30pm. A tour takes at least 30 minutes, so plan to be there by 5:00pm. School and other group tours of the Site and the Cupids Legacy Centre can be arranged by phoning 709-528-1610.
Dildo Island/Anderson’s Cove
Panels describing the archaeology at Dildo Island and Anderson’s Cove and artifacts recovered from these sites are on display at the Dildo and Area Interpretation Centre on the Main Road in Dildo. The Centre also includes many displays and artifacts related later history of Dildo and area. Anderson’s Cove is about a 2 km walk from the Centre. In 2011, the Centre will be open seven days a week from July 1 to September 5 between 10:00am and 5:00pm. Private tours can also be arranged throughout the year by calling 709-582-2687.
New Perlican
Some of the artifacts recovered from the Hefford Plantation are now on display at the Fred Grant Memorial Building in New Perlican. The building is open to visitors from 9:00am to 4pm Monday to Friday. The site is located just behind the building. Hikers should also check out the D’Iberville Coastal Hiking Trail which retraces the route followed by D’Iberville from the Sugarloaf in Winterton, through New Perlican and on to Heart’s Content during his attack on the English Shore in the winter of 1697. In New Perlican the trail can be accessed at either Garlop Point or Jean’s Head.
Russell’s Point
Russell's Point is located behind Russell's Service Station in Blaketown. It is just a five minute drive north from the TransCanada Highway at Whitbourne and just a ten minute drive south from the Dildo and Area Interpretation Centre. People can visit the site at Russell's Point and view the history boards at any time. A small building with display panels is located on the site.
Winterton
The Winterton Boat Building and Community Museum just a short drive north of New Perlican. The museum includes many artifacts from Winterton’s past and an excellent exhibit on the history of boat building in the community. Pinhorn’s Room is located between the museum and the beach.
